1951

May 5  Was a finer day. Got some baking done and got the bulbs. They look pretty good to me.

6  S. Sunny nice day. The Jones Family arrived and we had a nice drive down to shore. The new Community Centre looks pretty good. Saw the Coffins. Hester keeps about the same, wants to try to walk.

7  Its been a busy day and I’m all in to-night. Set out three little cedar trees and two black currants and 38 gladiola bulbs and sat with Hester and burned rubbish and grass and came in at 8 PM a wreck. R. Letter from Nan.

8  Lovely early but clouded over and was showery. Fred put manure in the hot bed and I finished it up and to-morrow will get the sweet peas planted. Mr and Mrs Gough here this afternoon, brought the fern home and I had afternoon tea for them. In 1947, Dad & I came here to the old Parsonage, just four years ago to-day.

9  Washed in morning. Had a few trips over to Freds. Hester pretty good but cannot stand or do much with her hands. Worked in the garden and set out some hollyhocks etc. Very tired at night. Wrote Marion. Gorgeous sunset. Warmer to-night.

10  Fine early but a good deal of cloud all day and cold winds to-night. Ironed this morning and planted

11  Wind keeps cold. Digging out weeds but didn’t plant anything to-day. Over to Freds three trips. Takes time.

12  A lovely rainy day, and the roads very gooey. A letter from Marion. Sewing and baking in afternoon. Annie at Freds so it was a little easier for me. Set out a lot of callimbine plants in evening.

13  S. Still misty this morning. Mothers day but guess I won’t get to church this morning.

Mother’s Day

16  Cleaning front room. Pauline asked Mr McLeod to call and see if I would go to Town. I did. It helped put in some hard days of memories of a year ago.

19  Came home and had to get in Den window. Left my purse with key in Town. Rodney came out with me and we have been having a wonderful time. The dear little chap has been quite happy and hasn’t had a cry yet.

22  Been very hot and dry. Some thunder this evening but no rain here. Fred disked the garden to-day and I got the outside window off.
