31 Mrs Woolner died this morning. The weather not so cold for which thanks be. Mr Bernards funeral form the United Church in afternoon. Stayed up until 1944.

1944 January 1st Not very cold. Ernest took the girls into Edwards in afternoon but they didn’t stay long. Stirling went for Ernest to help with the grave.
2 Was fine but a cold wind. Ernest took Mrs Coffin down to the funeral in afternoon, twas at the house. We all went to Church here at night. A lovely night frosty but calm.
3 A lovely but cold. I didn’t wash but was busy. Lois Simpson has measles.
4 Washed and Ernest left clothes out or some of them. Very heavy white frost these nights. School started again.
5 Fine and warmer. Annie Lowther and son David here after school to see the girls.
6 A nice day, good coasting. Una came up for afternoon. Washed my hair. Annual United Church meeting (Cavendish Section).
7 Don’t seem to be getting much done these fine days. Letters from all the family this week.
8 Busy all day. Eric & Alvin came up to coast and stayed the evening. Ina and Louise just about reached the limits. Lorne & Mary here until 11 PM. Tired? Oh no.
9 Quite a cold day and the girls didn’t stay out long. Got four letters written. Kate Fleming died this AM.

10 Not a very fine day but we washed and hung the clothes out in Club House. Ernest went to Creek in afternoon, road very heavy.
11 Well we didn’t get clothes dried very soon, damp weather with heavy white frosts at night. I was sewing some. Ernest in bed on 12th. Mr Coffin in bed three or four days. We had Gordon Gillis looking after the horse. They have measles at Cecils.
16 A nice day. Guess I spent it writing letters. Men working at ice on Pond.
17 A lovely day. We had very fine weather all week and quite mild. Temp from 24 to 34. Ernest working at the back porch all week just grand to be getting it sheathed. Letters from Keith telling us that he is to be married on Feb 3rd. We feel quite happy about it. Didn’t say anything to the girls until Sat 22nd.
22 A nice day. We went up to Stirlings in the evening.
23 Colder but very fine. Girls went up to Fred’s for milk in the morning and with Dad to shore.
