April 4th Atlantic Charter signed in Washington to-day
26 Thawing every day now and feeling more spring like.
27 S. Una came in before supper and Hazel after a nice day but roads bad and not many out to church.
28 Cloudy and rained so I’ve a nice lot of rainwater.
29 A lovely wash day and I had a large wash to do. Pretty tired at night.
30 Another lovely day. Mr & Mrs Gough here in afternoon and it was another big day for me. Finished my ironing and baked bread.
31 A grey day again with lots of snow floating around. Winston Churchill spoke in Boston Square Gardens, Boston. At 11:59 PM Newfoundland joined the Dominion of of Canada as a province. PJ & Heber have been out every month this winter.

April 1 Cloudy again to-day.
2 Baking and not doing much extra. Thawing every day. Lewis Toombs came in to see Dad.
3 Sunday. A very nice day. George & Mabel in this forenoon and Hester in the afternoon. Dad got dressed and had dinner with me. Not feeling very good.
4 Cloudy and damp atmosphere. The Atlantic Charter signed by 12 nations to-day.
5 Still cloudy, should have washed but waiting for rain waiter. Went over to Unas for eggs. Waine sent six balls crochet thread.
6 A lovely morning but clouded over. Got a good sized washing out and dry. Dad dressed after dinner and is planning to have supper in the kitchen and did.

7 Got ironing done in forenoon. Dad didn’t stay up so long to-day. We had supper in the room. A celebration at Ed Grahams for the bride & groom Allie Graham & Amy Toombs. The folks gave them around fifty dollars. Roads pretty bad. John Toombs went to hospital, pleuresy, very sick.
8 A nice day and seemed pretty busy all day. The snow is almost gone but the ground is very wet. Left plants in sunporch.
9 Another nice day. Finish cleaning a kitchen cupboard, baked bread & cookies. Dad sitting in kitchen this afternoon. Very tired at night and he couldn’t get to sleep.
10 Dad stayed in bed to-day. Anna & Jerry, Ced & Marjorie, Alfred & Annie & Hester & Alma were here to see him. Twas a cold wind and the roads still bad.
11 Still cold and frost at night. A damp East-Nor-east wind and feels like ice but none in sight. Took the boughs and straw off peonies and tulip. The iris are coming up. The ground very wet.
12 A lovely morning but a heavy white frost, looks like rain to-night and not so cold. Baked to-day and cleaned another cupboard. Herman Hill called to see Dad. John Toombs is in the Hospital with pleurisy, is better but has been very sick. Dad up this afternoon and had supper in the dining room.
13 A nice warm day. Ernest sat in the sunporch for awhile. A letter from Nan saying she is coming home
