March 1942 & April

 

25  Snowed and melted all day. E & PJ got home around 7 PM. Mr Tilley over to see Mother. She had a bad reaching spell after he left. Pauline got her trunk. Tired at night.

 

26  Grey days and cold wind. Ice in the Gulf as far as we can see. Pauline went to Miltons to supper and to Lowthers to Y Peoples to a debate.

 

27  Another grey day. Just another day, knitting crocheting. Mr Smith up in afternoon.

 

28  Washed most of Kitchen woodwork and the floor in Mothers room. Nice day. Letter from Waine.

 

29  A perfectly lovely day. Mother a bit off in her head. Lorne and Mary called. Dad & PJ went to church at night.

 

30  A nice day. Dad & Pauline washed. Mother very sick all day. Pauline put her Little Dutch Girl quilt in frames.

 

31  In bed in the morning with terrible head ache but able to quilt in afternoon and listened to the hockey game.

 

April 1st  Dad brought Annie Earl down in afternoon and it snowed very thick, wind S. East and chill wind.

 

2  Annie here and helped quilt in the morning and cleaned the room in afternoon.

 

3  Tennis and wife here in afternoon. A nice day. Young Peoples at Erns.

3rd  Mrs Fred came down in afternoon and got started fixing up Paulines dress & coat. Lewis & Mrs Toombs, Cora & John out in evening.

 

4  Hester came down about 10 AM and finished up Pauline’s sewing. Not feeling good all day.

 

5  A nice day. Heber came out to-night. Dad met him at Rustico. Pavement has been open for a week.

 

5  Easter. A nice day. Mother weak in the morning. Mr Shaw called in afternoon. Pauline went to Town with Heber. Road getting pretty bad. Stirling and Mabel down this evening.

 

6  Foggy in the morning and we didn’t wash. Annie here. Not feeling very good.

 

7  Washed this morning. Mother not very good, just weak. Cold wind to-day but roads bad, snow getting away.

 

8  Annie house cleaning. Ironed curtains and knitting.

 

9  Garnet Profit hanged himself this morning. Annie house cleaning. Mother very weak all day.

10  Ernest heard about Garnet Profit. Had a walk this morning. Annie housecleaning. Mother had a good day. Annie Alfred up this evening.

 

11  Bitter cold east wind all day and the ground is white to-night but it raining and snowing to-night. Annie finished up front stairs and did Kitchen floor to-day.
