Feb 1942 & March

 

27  girls. Marion & Ian better. Temp around 30 above.

 

28  A nice day but a ground drift going in forenoon. Made pies and help with regular Saturday work. Dad & I went up to Freds in evening.

 

March 1st  A lovely calm spring day. Mother not so well. Church at night. Dora Buntain called. Perfect night.

 

2  A lovely day and Anita & Dad got the washing done. Nan getting ready to go to Toronto.

 

Tuesday March 3rd we went down to Alec’s in afternoon. A chill wind and and it poured rain all night.

4  Ernest took Anita to Hunter River, road getting soft but it didn’t rain much. Snow has settled and a lot of bare ground showing.

 

5  Froze some but a lovely day, and thawed in the day. Quite a crowd left on excursion.

 

6  Fine but blew a gale at night and snowed some.

 

7  A March gale all day. Mother pretty miserable. Cecil and the girls came down in evening.

 

8  S. Lovely day but cool wind. Good walking on the crust. A long lonely day.

 

9  Cloudy this AM and we didn’t wash. Ernest had Ralph Coles pump out the cellar. Blowing and raining to-night.

10  A lovely morning, washed, a snow squall came up and Ernest took clothes in but put them out after dinner. Got most of ironing done in evening.

11  Not feeling so good and not much doing.

 

12 & 13  Nice days, not very cold. Mother keeps about the same. Gordon Fife down this evening. Joe Stewart brought Ethel & Dorothy down to see Mother.

 

14  Paulines 22nd birthday. A lovely day. Bob and Jennie McKenzie came up. Mother very weak all morning. Very like spring weather. Letter from Maurice Birds’ girlfriend.

 

15  Dense fog this morning but sun shine scattered it. Ernest went to church.

 

16  Cloudy in morning but cleared up lovely. Not feeling very good. Didn’t wash.

 

17  Nice day. Washed. Not very spry. Flowers came for Mother from Stirling Institute.

 

18  Another lovely spring day. Ironed.

 

22nd  S. A snow storm, cold south east wind. Very quiet.

 

21  A nice morning and snow melting. PJ & I washed. Dad went to Stanley for pills for Mother. Got ironing done too and had a drive up to Fenners after supper.

 

22  Dad and Pauline went to Town this morning and Mary Stewart came to stay with me. Cecil & Leona came down.

 

23  A lovely morning, Pauline & I washed. Dad went to Stanley for pills for Mother. Started to rain in afternoon. Got ironing done.

 

24  Ernest and Pauline went to Town. Stayed at Reuels. Mary Stewart stayed with me all night. Cecil & Leona down after supper.
