attack and only lived about 10 minutes or so. She was worn out. Mrs Clapp has been in bed for two years and made a slave of Mima.

6  Fred & Jack sawed her wood and that’s the day. We went to Town. Roads bad, have been freezing at night and thawing out in the day, and kept like that until the

 

9th  then the weather is a little colder and roads dried up.

 

10th  Snowed and blowing hard all day and night. Ernest isn’t very good to-day, very dizzy. Busy for I expected to have two extra over the weekend but they didn’t come.

 

11  Roads bad and Bobby brought a sleigh. The men had to go up to Bay View to help Mr Davidson through with the hearse. Clara Howes came and Mr Battersea. Not a very large funeral but wonderful considering the roads. Practically all the relatives there. Not blowing so hard to-night

 

15  Serena Wedlock fell through a hole in the floor landing on the bottom of a furnace they were having installed in the house. She was terribly hurt, was taken to Alberton then to S. Side Hospital. She died on the 23rd.

25  We had a very quiet Christmas all by our lonesome. Una and Eric came over in the evening. Fred & Hester went to French River. Sadie & George to Hunter River. Mabel & Stirling & Kids went to Clarences. Twas a beautiful morning with

28  snow to be Christmasy. Mrs John Webb died on the 29. Anita went to Ottawa for her holidays after Christmas.

 

1949

 

Jan 1st  We had Fred & Hester here for New Years duck dinner. The snow left between Christmas and New Year and we still have had very little snow.

 

9  S. The Jones family got out in the truck on Jan 9th.

 

16  On the 16th I played the organ in the Baptist Church. Mary & Lorne were up.

 

17  Grant McCallum came to see us to-day and took me up to Grant McLeods store. A perfect road and not very cold.

 

18  Just another fine day. Freds have Russel MacNeill and Geo. Cy working.

 

January was a rather wonderful month. Temp above normal most of time but a few nights below zero,

 

30  A bitter cold day around 4A and blowing a gale all day.
