May 1947
Hester arrived home and came over. Lewis & Ethel Toombs were here in the evening and Lucy McLure and Helen Simpson Woolner so we had quite a day of company. Dad got some Mayflowers.
Sent a box of Mayflowers to Anita and wrote to both girls. Did quite a big washing and washed the wood work in upstairs hall and scrubbed the floor. Dad and I walk away down the old Simpson farm until we could see the Horne Cottage. Had a little spell at the church organ.
A lovely warm day. Dad got more gardening done. Found some black currant bushes and set out more rhubarb. Painted on upstairs hall all afternoon. Tired? Rained in afternoon.
Cold wind this morning and white caps. Ironed and baked bread and painting again till after 7 PM. Dad went up to Ralph Coles for some Honeysuckle and roses, etc.
Got the small bushes set out and we papered in afternoon and finished the hall up stairs. It looks pretty good. Have a lot of painting to do.
Just about finished papering hall down stairs today and got some painting done too and Dad cut sets. Winnielea here to supper. We had pancakes. Sadie helped us this afternoon. Just a bit weary to-night.

A nice day but blowing and roads dusty. Got the place fairly tidy for the weekend. Finished the paper and painting in the hall. Baked rolls and busy all day and tired out at night. Fred & Dad planted potatoes.
A lovely day, the LePages and Jones family and Mr and Mrs Coffin all here at one time. Stirling & Janet over in the forenoon and Stirling was in after church at night. Cold to-night, east wind.
A very heavy rain from east & southeast in the forenoon but cleared up and quite warm after dinner. Dad moved a cupboard out of pantry and put it on west side of Kitchen, quite a job. We got a wonderful snow ball bush from James O’s this evening and some rhubarb.
72 to-day and a grand day for working outside. Dad planted three birch trees and dug up a strip for dahlias and we got 32 bulbs planted. Got some beans in too and another row of peas and tomato plants re-set. Got letters from Anita & Marion. Anita was operated on 24th.
A nice day, mostly cloudy. Washed in forenoon and baked this afternoon. Dad having quite a struggle with the lawn to-day. It’s very hard to cut.
A nice day. Ernest finished cutting lawn. I went for a drive with Mr Coffin as far as Margate and Ernest was working at the big stump on the lawn. Planted nasturtiums this morning. Hester & Annie
