Very wet and cold all across Canada
15 The men working part time but ground too soft for cutting grass. Grant up.
16 Very foggy most of day. Men couldn’t do much.
17 Fine and we did a big washing. Mr & Mrs Coffin took us to Rustico for groceries. One man got 5000 pounds of cod fish to-day. Its been very bad weather for the fishermen but lobsters and cod are plenty when they can get out. Grant up.
18 Rained all day. Mr Coffin has our car which is in the garage. Blowing a gale at night and all
19 day and colder. Anita in Moncton waiting for plane. Glad she stayed there.
20 Bitter cold to-day but not raining and thats something to be thankful for. Anita and Verna Niddery arrived out in afternoon from Town. Pauline & Heber & 7W[?] brought them out.
21 Had a very nice week and quite warm, the girls had one day at shore and Verna was down several times and got a good sunburning by Friday.
24 We had one afternoon in Town and a drive one evening. Via Clifton, French River, Long River, Kensington & Hunter River where we left Lowells friend with Thelma. Had a man papering & painting.
Heber fell in the mill pond while fishing
27 S. The Young People put on a service in the Church. Not many tourists. Didn’t do much.
31 Verna Niddery went back via Nova Scotia & CPR.
June 1945
The weather not so good, plenty of cold north east. Wind and storms. Plenty of lobsters and cod when the fishermen can get out. They have had some wonderful catches.
10 Heber & Ralph found a trap off Cawnpore with 19 good lobsters in it. They were pretty good if we did boil them on Sunday. Monday
11 washed and Anita ironed and she & Dad painted the kitchen and we went to Mayfield to vote for McKenzie King. Austin Laird refused Nan a vote but McKenzie King is in anyway. We went to Town
12 Tuesday morning and we got the car fixed and my feet strapped again. Took Hazel and Ethel Moore with us. Got yarn for Red Cross knitting. Didn’t do much extra but finished up the house cleaning on the 16th and Mr Samuel Allen from New York came in the afternoon. Had a very hot day Thursday 14th up to 84 and up to 80 on the 15th. The men kept very busy on the Golf Course, the grass is growing very fast.
17 Quite a number around this afternoon. Mrs Stirling and Doris Mr & Mrs Horace Wright and Dr. and Mrs. Dan Harvey and Alf Simpson and Ethel & Wallace McNutt etc went to church this morning. Looks like rain to-night.
18 Looked like rain and we didn’t wash. Cleared up in afternoon but the whole week was rather damp and miserable. We went (22nd) to Town Friday to see A Song to Remember. 21 Hunter River put on a play “Lena Rivers” took in $72 or $78 at the door. 23 I finished up with my foot treatments.
