October 1942

Another lovely day, quite warm. Anita had to go back to Town to-day about her teeth and Louise & I went with her. Charlie here to-night and Eric Bell, Pauline LePage Henry and Bobbie got home from the Hospital.

Another perfectly lovely day all day but cooler. The flies terrible. Everyone busy. The girls sent their trunks to Hunter River. Mr McCallum took them. Heber came out to-night. Frost at night.

Still a lovely day and our dahlias not frozen. Charlie here all night and for breakfast and dinner. Anita & I went up to see Mother. She was sitting up all the afternoon. Talk about flies. Went to church at night.

No sleep last night. The girls left this morning for Rimouski and Toronto. Heber took them to Hunter River. Una went with them. They would stop at Rimouski on the way. Louise is still here and great company. Jim Campbell & Ruth Elaine Montgomery married.

Did a big washing to-day. Have the place fairly ship shape. Some frost last night and the dahlias down in the garden look dark to-day. Charlie went Rustico way with Mr McCallum.

Another perfectly lovely day. Expected extra men for dinner but they didn’t come. Tried to sew some but too tired. Got part of ironing done. A 14 hr day to-day.

A lovely day, not cold. Ironed, baked and sewing and tired at night.

Another almost cloudless day. 8 Liberator planes went over NE. Eight went over last week. Got cards from the girls at Rimouski. Mr Smith here to supper. No news. Charlie got back to-night.

Fine day. Charlie went away after breakfast. Mr McCallum here. Just regular Saturday work. Letter from Lorraine. Colder to-night. Had 3 RCAEWD girls.

Blowing hard and colder. Had room fire on. About seven cars in this afternoon. Rally Service in Baptist Church at night.

Rained all last night and nearly all day to-day and cold. Mr Smith came in about 7 PM with a duck for us. Washed the wood work in. Kitchen this morning and made a big batch of cookies this afternoon and cranberry jam. Letter from the girls.

Getting ready for the chicken supper at night. Showery all day but cleared up fine and cold at night. Womens Institute put on a supper. Made over $70.00.

Have a wretched cold and feeling rather rotten. Didn’t do much. Mr McCallum not here.

Got a letter from Pauline. Hope they get along OK. Charlie came back in afternoon and left after supper with his suit case. War news a little better and the Germans have not yet taken Stalingrad. Got dahlia bulbs in cellar.
