Dec 1936 & Jan 1937
28 46A. Mild and rain, colder at night. Dad killing chickens. I got my papers signed and oh, what a mess it is outside! Nothing much doing. Spent evening correcting exams.
29 6A. Cold. Spent morning canning chickens. First time to use canner and it works slick. Ham over for evening. Also Gordon! Had a very nice time playing cards.
30 8A. Clear and cold. Washing for first time in two weeks. Pauline & Neta at Lowthers for evening.
31 Silver thaw. Dad & I drove to Hunter’s River, thence to town and oh what ice! Pavement just like glass, but fine for skating. Got my tooth out and partial plate in. Dad sold the farm. Came out on the 3:20 train & I kept on to Carleton. Raining some. At Keiths for night.
Jan 1st 1937 Friday. Beautiful mild clear day. Ham here nearly all afternoon. PJ at Netas taffeta petticoat. YPS at Lowthers at night – everyone walked. Roads a mess!
2 Cloudy and colder. Wilbert and John came up in afternoon and brought me along too. Roads terribly cut up. W J and Neta at Lowthers for supper. Everyone at pond skating in

evening. Austin G. got his foot in a springhole.
3 Raining. Edward & Wilbert here in morning and we all went to Wyands to practice in afternoon and stayed for supper. No service. Mrs Wm Moffat is very poorly. Gang here in evening for a while.
4 Beautiful day, ground frozen a little. School re-opened. Boys started for home about 8:30 AM. David out to help Dad kill beef. Ham here, too. Neta very miserable with cold. Radio gone phooey. Nice quiet evening home. Jerry went to hospital.
5 Lovely day – quite clear. Canning meat seems to be the order of the day. Got 66 cans of beef done to-day. Nothing much happening.
6 Still no snow – blowing and cold. Canned some more meat. Nothing much doing.
7 Cloudy and cold – snowing a bit at night Pauline sewing. Made up some potted meat. PJ and Neta at choir practice – exams for me! Mr Pat in NS.
8 Lovely day, fairly cold. Some snow on ground but not enough for good sleighing. Holmans out from town to fix radio and took it back with them. YPS at Manse at night. Mrs Wm Moffat died in morning. Eric, Elmer, Gordon, Dorothy T. & Austin here after YPS.
