August-September 1933

Mrs Irwin, Kathleen and Norah came the 12th. Mr & Mrs Reese the 8th to 18th. Mr and Mrs Gillings the 5th to 18th. Misses Norris the 3rd to the 24th, Mrs Timmins, Adele and Mrs Baker here until August 21st. Mr & Mrs Logan came the 18th and stayed until the 4th Sept. Had a Mrs & Miss Ivy Monroe over night, a Miss Wort, and Mrs. Morler[?] and Margaret Morler[?]. Mrs Kennear and Miss Kinnear of Montreal. Mr & Mrs Anderson of Toronto. Miss Hazel Alward and Maisie Mitten of Moncton.The whole month terrible dry and the last week very hot. Had Miss Jean Richardson for a week. Everybody mighty tired when the busy season is over. Had a nice time with the Logans. Mr. L gave me his lovely white sweater. Lorraine went back to college.

 

Sept 7th  Marion getting ready to go Norval.

 

Sept 8th  Finished hauling in grain Sept 8. YPS here to-night. Our flowers are pretty now but the summer has been so dry that they haven’t done as well as usual.

9  Poured rain in forenoon. Everyone tired. Marion sewing.

 

10  Cooler and fine. Anita went up for Mother in forenoon and I took her home at night. Went to United Church at night. A Mr Anderson preached this evening from And When I Awake I am Still with Thee.

 

11  Blowing a gale, finer and cold. Washed churned and ironed. Marion cut out and made her blue dress. Nellie here for dinner.

 

12  Ham & Earl here thrashing. John McNeill, Isobel & Beth and Aunt Emily here for supper. Wrote to Mrs Gooch.

 

13  Much finer to-day. Ernest pulling beans. Sewing. Alvin, Hattie, and Verna Phillips here for supper. Valley Farm play at Howes Hall Brackley. Very cool to-night.

 

14  Fine but quite cool. School fair at Mayfield. Ernest & I went. Reta McLure here in afternoon. Marion packing her suitcases for Norval.

 

15  Frost this morning. Marion started for Norval, Anita went to train with her. Herbs car went flat and Austin took her to Station. I went to Town with Wyands, took Nellie to get glasses.
