August-September 1941

1941

 

Aug 28  Temp 50 this morning and blowing hard all night. Had 27 in for eats. Joe & Kate Peters here to-night getting papers signed. Ernest and Doris not feeling very well.

 

29  The sick feeling better. Anita & I went to Town and had a busy afternoon when we came home. Don Maurice and Les came out for a long weekend. Had a campfire at night at shore.

 

30  Mighty busy day all day. Quite a number around. Doris went to Town at night with Heber. Two new boys came out with Dickman-Wilkes Dick Hovers and Gordon Hatherly. Rained hard at night. The girls and Maurice & Les went to S. Side.

Maria Hart died

 

31  S. A lovely fine Sunday and a lot of people over. Air Force everywhere. Went to Church at night.

 

Sept 1  Washed sheets in morning. Blowing and looked like rain but got most of things fairly dry. Labor Day. Not many around. Lorraine came at night, train and boat very late.

Waine came home

 

Sept 2  all night and in bed all day Tuesday. Got word that Maria had died on Aug 30th.

 

3rd  Still blowing but fine after yesterdays storm. Up to-day but feeling a bit rotten. Girls trying to get clothes dry and ironed.

 

4  Lovely day. Mrs Woods over in afternoon. Quite a number around. Chior practice to-night.

September 1941

 

5  Cloudy but didn’t rain. Mrs Woods stayed with me and the girls went to Town and had a picnic supper with Maurice Les and Len. Quite a few around. Charlotte Simpson very low.

 

6  Everyone busy. Five boys came in afternoon and had a cornboil at night after playing crokinole for a couple of hours, then walked around the block.

 

7  A lovely morning and a lot of people around and 32 had lunch. A thunder shower in the afternoon. All in at night.

8  Misty this AM and did not wash. Anita cutting out a coat for Ina. Dad and Heber went to Town. Quiet day. Funeral in afternoon.

 

9  Zilda here and she and Waine washed. The rest of us went to Town. Got a new black hat and my hair set. Had supper at Enids. Went to Missionary Conference meeting at Church at night. Mrs Simpson Bell and Eric here.

 

10  A lovely day and a party of eight had lunch here. They were playing Golf and Paul Murray was pretty well corned[?]. Was down to see May at night. Rained at night.

 

11  Lovely morning. Mother down and we had a drive to shore. Thunder shower in afternoon. Mary Stewart and Anita playing Golf on practice tee.

 

12  Kept Mother down another day. Girls went to Carleton
