September-October 1941

Sept 1941

 

12  for the day and got home in pouring rain. Brought Ina and Louise home with them.

 

13  Cold to-day but fine. Don and Maurice came out and the girls had a birthday cake for Maurice. They took them in to Town at night.

 

14  S. A fine day. Went down for Keith in morning. Quite a number of people around. Rally Service at Church at night. Raining by 10 PM.

 

15  Pouring rain all day. Roads bad. In bed until 3:30. Dad & Pauline took Keith and kiddies home.

 

16  Girls went to Town. Mrs Woods came over after dinner and they all stayed to supper. Charlie & David here to-night.

 

17 to 26  Lorraine went back on the 20th and Anita went to Carleton. The house was quiet for that day, our 36 Wedding Anniversary. Girls gave us an electric toaster. Have had wonderful fine weather and grain is ripening. Went down to Keiths on 25th and into S. Side first. Had Maurice and Les and Gordon out to supper one evening and Gordon Hatherly, Dick Hovers and Tony Dickman-Wilkes here, the first two for a week. They are nice boys. Canned 2 ½ cases mackerel. Storm coming wind cold to-night.

 

28  Storm didn’t come. Had lovely day. Had Reuel and Enid and Frank Sutton out to-day

Sept 28

 

here for dinner. Ernest PJ & I went to Hunter River to see Everett Wedlock.

 

29  Blowing a gale early but calmed down some, cold to-night. Getting my things ready for the trip to Norval. Hope it warms up a bit.

Oct 1st  Myrtle left this AM with the Woods for Ont. Fine and a bit warmer. Big wash. Lydia here. Fine rest of week.

 

Sunday 5  Went to O’Leary took Anita and Keiths family. Found Arthur and Ken some better but Lizzie very much failed in mind and body. Started to rain before we left Campbellton pouring when we got to Keiths. Pauline and I stayed all night.

 

6  Got home next AM in time to get Heber and our own breakfast. Still raining.

 

7  Light rain, washed but didn’t put clothes out. Went to Town in afternoon with Heber in Dodge Truck brought home 15.00 coal $9.00 per ton. I got myself a nice top coat $20.00. Lorraines present.

 

8  Put clothes out. Dried in jig time. Pauline ironing most of day. Supt here, he and Heber went shooting got one duck.

9  Fine. Went to Cemetery about grave. Nothing new.
