Dec 1944

A perfect day. I went to Town with Mr & Mrs Coffin did some shopping and had dinner with Enid and kept Terry in the afternoon while PJ got her permanent. Got a high chair for Terry.

Cloudy and calm all day. Knitting and crocheting for Christmas gifts.

Another dark cloudy day with north wind and some rain and snow flurries. Grass still green around here. Very little frost since the 2nd. Jack Stewart ploughing over here with tractor.

A fine day and no frost. The roads a little wet in places but Eric & Marion took us to S. Side. Dr Claude told me what was wrong with me. A lovely evening. Ern and Winnie came over.

Mrs Ernest Houston

Didn’t do much Saturdays work but knit and crocheted on some Christmas things. Rained in after-noon.

A lovely cloudless morning. Temp 34. Heber and PJ and Terry came along about 3 PM. Mighty good to have them. Snowed a little but fine when they left for home. Mrs McCoubrey sick again.

A lovely day, not cold. Washed. Jack took us to Rustico and we called at Geo McCoubreys on way home.

Temp 40. Terrible snow storms in southern Ontario but we just had a rain here in the afternoon. Toronto

Dec 1944

Ian Laird. Marions & Murrays little boy died this morning after a nights illness. Pneumonia & heart condition

snowed under completely. Bert Pearl the only one of the Happy Gang on the job.

A lovely morning and a wonderful day all day. Temp 36 in afternoon and it was lower at night. A very light sprinkle of snow. Roads not bad at all.

Another nice day all day. Blowing harder at night and cold. Fenners working at his barn. Plenty of trouble in Greece these days.

Just a perfect morning and in fact a mighty nice day. Dad went to shore this morning. Tired, me. We had fine weather, with very little snow until 24th then about five inches fell. Went to church on 17th. Good clean walking.

th  Went to Town with Mr & Mrs Coffin, snowing a little but didn’t amount to much. The word came in the mail that Ian had died on the 12th. A terrible shock to us as there just wasn’t any particulars.

Mr Coffin had a letter from Marion. Ian was just sick for a few hours. Poor Marion & Murray.

Its been hard to keep going these days and our hearts are very sad. Marions letter came Friday and another from Murray yesterday with a cheque for our tickets to Toronto. But how can we leave here.

Cloudy but fine. Freds asked us up to dinner but we just couldn’t go. Had a chicken for dinner and had a quiet day. Mr & Mrs Coffin went to Town this AM.
