February 1945

 

1st  What a day, not very cold, 16 above this morning and went up to 28 but wind came around north in afternoon and its about 24 to-night. Snowing all day, fine to-night.

2  A miserable day, snowing and drifting. Temp around 24 above. Mrs Coffin came over in afternoon to wash. They were both here to supper. Got out on snow-shoes.

 

3  Just like yesterday with north wind and snow flurries and drifting. Rather dreary weather. Have letters from all the girls to-day. Keith is thinking of making a change. Sorry for him to leave Pickering, it was such a lovely place.

 

4  S. A fairly nice day, cleared up in afternoon. George & Sadie in for a little while in afternoon. 4 above zero.

 

5  Not so cold this morning. Washed and the clothes still out. Happy operated on to-day. Mr Coffin went to Town.

 

6  A lovely fine sunny frosty day and clothes dried beautifully and most of them ironed. Mrs Coffin over in afternoon.

 

7  Another fine day but wind north west and a ground drift going. Ernest went to Rustico in afternoon and took me to Ernest McNeills for the afternoon. Still coughing.

 

8  A nice winter day. Mr & Mrs Coffin over in afternoon. I made doughnuts. Keiths letter came saying that they will be seeing us next week. He is leaving

Keith & Ethel came on 15th

 

8  Pickering and starting work at Georgetown March 1st.

 

9  A north east snow storm all day and no one moving anywhere and no mail

 

10  A finer day and not very cold. Letters from Anita and Pauline. Cleaning up the house some.

 

11  S. Snowing and raining and cleared up in afternoon. Ernest went to church in the morning.

 

12  A lovely day all day. Dad and Mr Coffin went to Hunter River to meet Keith & Ethel but they had gone to Carleton first.

 

13  Another lovely day, frosty at night.

 

14  A nice day but wind very chill. Margaret Moore came over after school and Mr & Mrs Coffin in for a few minutes. Feeling rotten all day.

 

15  Dad went to Hunter River for Keith & Ethel. Roads very rough & pitches rather terrible. Both of them sick. Too much lobster and ice cream in Carleton. Pretty good to have them.

 

16  Both feeling pretty miserable. Weather fine but frosty at night. Sunday K & E felt able to go visiting and had dinner at Jerrys and went snow shoeing in the afternoon. Monday they went to Wyands, Lewis Toombs, David Johnstons and Edwards. The rest of week they stayed home, tramped around on snow shoes and rested all they could.
