May 1947 The Old Parsonage
1 Rained and rained and froze onto everything. A lot of telephone lines smashed between Hunter River and Wellington. We are in Ch. Town at PJs.
8 Came to Cavendish and our new home in the old Parsonage. Heber brought us in the truck, the pavement very rough in places and from Rustico up was pretty bad. stove up & working burning oil. Very cold at night and blowing hard.
9 Just as busy as could be trying to find things and a place to put them. The down stairs in good repair. The neighbours came in to help and brought us eggs. Tired enough at night to go to bed at dark. Mr Coffin in a few minutes this morning
10 Cleaned the kitchen, got floor scrubbed, etc. Still hunting for things and finding what I’m not looking for.
11 A nice day but not too warm. Pauline & family got out in afternoon and went for mayflowers. They are very small.
Mother’s day
12 Dad working outside, got three little apple trees planted, 2 MacIntosh and 1 delicious. The mail brought a lovely scarf from Waine and a card. Got oil cloth on our floor in room. Have to get new for dining room. Russell MacNeill in this evening.
13 Tearing off paper in halls so Mr MacNeill can do some
13 papering for us. Burned grass on lawn and tried to burn out the old stump.
14 28 and a north east gale. White caps as far as we can see. Another busy day. Russel MacNeill papered the west wall of the hall and did the two ceilings. We have most of the paper off the hall. Una in this evening. A letter from Waine.
15 30. Cold but not blowing so hard. Dad worked at Hall but I didn’t do much. Went to Hunter River with Mr Coffin and had supper there. Little Gary is a lovely baby. They are building another Cottage or dining room.

16 A nice day and warmer. Went with Mrs Coffin to Town and didn’t have a very nice day. Tried to get oil cloth for dining room but couldn’t and left two rolls of paper somewhere. All in at night. Had lobsters at Paulines for supper.
17 A lovely day. Got scrubbing done and Kitchen floor waxed. Fred ploughed and harrowed the east side of our bit of land. Raked the dyke on the west side baked bread. Had lovely fresh cod fish for dinner and lobster for supper. Eric and Winnie here this evening.
18 A lovely morning and we went to Church. Not many out but it was good to see our friends again Mary & Lorne came up in the afternoon, and
