Everett Wedlock died suddenly Dec 4th
1 4 above and blowing hard and a bitter cold day all day. Heber got his car shoveled out of snow bank at Milton Greens. I did his washing. Mother in bed all day.
2 A nice day, not so cold. Mr Smith here for dinner. Heber went to Town in afternoon and may get work there. Busy fixing up Hebers clothes in case he goes away.
3 Ernests birthday. We washed in forenoon. A lovely day E. went to head of Bay. Wrote Aunt Jen & Nan to night. A dance at Ira McCoubreys for Ralph McNeill & wife.
4 Heber took Austin Graham, Ralph Coles & Willie Johnston to Hunter River in the morning. Mother not feeling very good today. In fact she is failing fast I think. Letter from Lorraine.
Perfect day
5 Quite mild, is 38 above today and radio reports mild weather all over Eastern States. Sweeping and made some potted meat. Had oyster stew for supper.
6 40. Fine day. Busy. Ernest splitting wood. Mother not feeling very well. Heber came home from Town at night.
7 Rained hard all day and to-night its snowing and as dirty as can be. Japan planes bombed Honolulu and Manilla and declared war on U.S. England, Canada, and British possessions have declared war on Japan.
8 Storming. United States declared war on Japan and we didn’t do much but listen to the radio.
9 Fine and a lovely day. Washed in morning. Ernest went to New Glasgow for groceries. My back not so good.
Dec 1941
10 Pretty crippled. The Repulse and Prince of Wales, Royal Navys largest ships sunk by Japan with a great loss of life. Colder to-day. Made ginger cookies and did the ironing. Went to bed with a mighty sore back.
11 15A. Snow in the night and practically all day. No mail. Quite cold but moderated in evening and temp went up to 28 at 10 PM but dropped again before morning.
No mail
12 Finer to-day and Bobbie got along. Ernest out shoveling this morning. Sent a box of cookies to Lorraine. Mother has been a little brighter to-day. She sleeps a lot. Knitting until my shoulders ache. War news a bit brighter.
13 A lovely day and I got quite a lot done. Washed curtains and part of wood work. Dad got kitchen floor waxed. Quite frosty to-night and we have extra fires on.
14 Snowed and rained all day. Not cold but a dark day and night. Got several letters written.
15 30A. A dark day and a darker night. Baked bread and washed and ironed. Mother not feeling very good.
16 Fine day. Ernest & I went to Rustico in afternoon. Bitter chill wind and I was nearly froze when I got home.
17 Not so cold, temp got up to 36 but turned colder at night and blew a gale. Mother not very good at all.
18 Fine to-day. Cold to-night. Trying to get Pats sweater finished. Mother not gaining any. A letter from Otto to-day.
