1  Lovely fine morning, blowing a gale from SW. Ham here for dinner and supper. E killed little porker. Jubilee Committee meeting here at night. Girls housecleaning.

 

2  Very cold west wind but fine. Girls cleaned two halls upstairs and Pauline’s room. Ernest to Jim Houston’s and store. Play practice. Ham here for supper.

 

3  Very fine but wind North West and very cold. Girls washed in A.M. and were sorting up the attic. YPS at Willie Toombs. The three girls drove.

 

4  Wind still bitter cold N.E. Ernest working with road. Ham here for dinner. Nan and I went to Rustico for paper for the pantry. Play practice at night. Arthur and Annie drove from Carleton.

 

5  S. Very fine, wind N. United Church in AM. Jubilee service. Quiet day.

 

6  King’s Jubilee celebration. Sports out from town for first time. Dad working at Cemetery in afternoon straightening monuments. Girls cleaned sewing room and landing. Bon fire on Austins hill tonight.

7  Fine in morning and warm but wind cold in afternoon and evening. Ernest & I went to Toronto to see a Frenchmans horse. Anita walked from Lornes to Dolph Flemings to Institute. Bad

May 8th, Walter Meech

 

7  hole at Artie’s gate and Mr Paterson got stuck. Ernest went down to Dolphs for Nan.

 

8  Fine and wind still East & north and cold. Girls tired. Dad went to town with Jack for stuff for ceiling & floor of big dining room. Play practice play practice. Walter Meech died in Toronto.

9  Lovely day. Seeds came from Georgetown, Ont. Nan at manse hooking. David here planting trees for Mr. Bonnell. Play practice at night. Fire in Jerrys field and Billy Pas’. Some excitement for young fry.

10  Dark day, threatened rain. Girls went up to Hall in afternoon and for Mayflowers. YPS contest closed and they had the meeting in Hall and served ice-cream and cake. Not feeling well.

 

11  Finer. Planted peas, lettuce in garden. Girls busy all day. Nan helped finish the Paterson mat. Play practice at night.

 

12  S. Mothers day. In bed most of day. Got up after dinner. Reuels came out for first time, called on way home from Bay View. Miss Stavert here for dinner and went with Pauline for Mayflowers. Girls went to Wyands to practice. Baptist church at night. Big crowd there. Arthur & John up from Carleton.

Sunday School started

 

13  Wind bitter cold and flakes of snow falling. Ham went to Hunter River with little pigs. Ernest sold four at $4.00 each. E. harrowing field across lane. Girls washed. P. practice to-night. Up to-day, no good.
