June 1933

 

12  Lovely shower in forenoon. Put plants out for a bath. Fresh mackerel for dinner. Anita and I went driving and called at John F’s, Alecs, Bobs, Lornes and McCoubreys.

 

13  Rained in night and most of day. Set out tomato plants and cabbage and put geraniums in garden. Tired.

 

14  Rained all night but cleared up for play at Harrington. Alvin brought Marion home and took Amanda and I down to Harrington. Tired again. [$]12.35

 

15  Lovely day, finished sowing grain, planted potatoes and turnips. Girls setting plants out of hot bed. Anita and I went over to Ellices.

 

16  Cloudy and damp all day. Girls drove to Stanley to YPS at Mrs Weirs. Everybody busy and tired at night. Artie and Jerry Clarke here and Mrs C and Eva.

 

17  Still cold and damp and rained in afternoon. Ironing, baking churning etc. Mission Band concert and ice cream at the Hall.

 

18  Stayed in bed till afternoon. Carleton bunch. Wilbert and Arthur Wright, Isabelle Ramsay, Keith & Margaret arrived. Poured torrents at night and the boys and Isabelle stayed here and Keith & Margaret at Austin’s. Ellice & Annie here in evening.

 

19  Still raining and cold. North east wind to-night.

19  Institute at Fenners. Twentieth anniversary of Stirling Institute at Stanley to-night.

 

20  40A. Very cold all day but cleared off at night and very cold. Ernest fixing lane. Marion sewing. Musical entertainment at Hall. Girls gone.

 

21  Finer and warmer to-day. Ernest stalking peas and beans and we were pulling thistles out of strawberries. Ellice over this evening. Annie has North Carleton school. Nellie back again.

 

22  Raining nearly all day. Girls papered the little bedroom. Play didn’t go to Freetown as planned.

 

23  Cloudy in AM. Cleared off at noon. E & I went to Creek Anita and Lorraine painting. Put dresden plate quilt in frames. Debate between Cavendish and Malpeque. Malpeque won.

 

24  Perfect morning and a nice warm shower at night. Quilting. Marion finished Paulines coat and working on Margarets dress. Ellice went over to Carleton with Lemmie Wyands.

 

25  Lovely day. Alvin Miriam and Raynell down. Church in afternoon and the young fry went to New Glasgow to church at night.

26  Very fine early and thunder clouds came up all day. Play at Tyron. Rained quite hard but they didn’t get very wet. $8.45.
