20  Lovely fine day. Practice at Wesley Smith’s last night.

 

21  Fine but wind cold, round to S.E. to-night and blowing hard. Ernest & Albert to Frank Houston to an Egg Circle director’s meeting. Nan at Wilburs to-night. Letters from the Herd girls in N.Z.

 

22  Sunday. Squall in morning, rainbow. Cleared up and fine all day. Nan went to Roy Toombs with Wilburs.

 

23  Mrs Eustis here to wash. Dark and bleak in the morning. Poured rain in afternoon and night. Mother sick.

 

24  Cecil called up this AM. Mother very sick. Had Dr. Stevenson, he said ‘twas gall stones. Fine day. Practice at Fred’s.

 

25  Fine day, warm. Mother little better. Wrote to Enid & Elaine. Company in evening.

 

26  Thursday big thaw. Poured rain. Cecil went to H. River for Elaine, terrible road. Mother pretty miserable all day. Came home to-night, pretty tired.

 

27  Cold wind to-day, blowing a gale and freezing. Keith & Anita went to Wyands to-night to a Young People’s meeting.

 

28  Very cold this AM and blowing a gale. Ernest at Cecil’s in afternoon. Butchering. Practice at Bob McKenzie’s for the Golden Wedding. Wild roads.

 

March 1925

A very decided earthquake felt last night at 10:20. We did not feel it but nearly everyone did. The centre was at the mouth of the Sagunaw river and Quebec got a severe shock. Almost panic in Montreal.

 

1st  Lovely fine day, fairly cold. Mr. Miller preached. Ernest & I went up to see Mother this afternoon. Roads very wild.

 

2  Raining this AM. Big thaw again. Over to Jerry’s in afternoon. Elaine has a bad cold. Albert up this evening. He and Ernest planning to go to town to-morrow.

 

3  Lovely day but fairly cold west wind. Albert & Ernest went to town. Letter from Marion. Mother keeping better. Wrote to Maud to-night. Keith up skating at J. Stewart.

Albert’s pigs came.

 

4  Very fine again, busy all day. Practice here tonight, a big crowd. Dad & Albert got home about 7:30 PM. Got a pair of chairs for Mr. & Mrs. JF. Tired.

 

5  Sawed wood. Dirty in afternoon. Dad & I went up to Bay View at night. Aching like toothache.

 

6  44A. Ernest went to Roller Mill this morning and to Hunter River for the chairs. Keith & Anita went to Hamilton Lairds to their club meeting. Anna over this afternoon. Soft this evening. Harry came over.

Big strike in Sydney. 14,000 men out of work.

 

7  Just a lovely spring day. Thawed a lot. Elaine went home to Montague. We went to Wesley’s to practice, took a carriage. The sky just looked like summer to-day. Pauline & Wayne made their first mud pies for this year.

Harry Lowther came from Carleton in carriage. First wheeling.
