January 1931

 

1  Cloudy and mild. Children skating in afternoon, older ones at night. Annie & Margaret and Martha Ling here to supper. Started hooking to-day.

 

2  Lovely bright day but blowing harder and colder. YP at Wilburs to-night. Lorraine got her prize from Toronto. String of pearls and bon-bon dish.

 

3  Snowed a little in afternoon. Cold in AM. In bed XYZ. Got long letter from Marion and her photo. Pretty sick at night. Anita had her 1st shorthand lesson.

 

4  Nice day. Church in AM. Dad stayed with me. Keith and Margaret driving in afternoon and M here to supper and for the evening. Feeling pretty punk.

James Anderson aged 93

 

5  Nice day. Not very cold. James Anderson died last night, very old man. Girls washed. Earl Henry & Crawford McKay here to dinner. Prayer meeting at night U Church. Lovely moonlight. Keith taking Lowther kids to Hunter River. Got word today that June Wedlock very sick, pneumonia.

 

6  Stormy morning and raining by noon. Anita not very well. No mail to-day. James Anderson buried in afternoon. Terrible day for funeral.

7  Mild in AM but cold enough by night. Still in bed. Police out to Harolds making some inquiries about the robbery at Harolds and Peter Sam about ill using his horse.

 

8  Blowing hard and cold. Snowing a little. Temp about 12A. Got up but legs very sore. Can hardly walk. Anita and Lorraine were over to Mrs Bishops in evening. Letters from Marion & Miss Edwards. Men in woods

 

9  Just a beautiful day all day. Got bandage on my old shank. Young Peoples at Ben Woolners. Keith Anita & Lorraine went. Perfect night.

 

10  Started to snow in afternoon. Jim & Dorothy down to go skating with the children. Freda up. Anita went up for Mother. Feeling pretty mean, so I am. Big storm all night. Keith cutting wood at John Grahams.

 

11  Stormy day but cleared off in afternoon tho’ still drifting. Slept down in the room at night.

 

12  Lovely bright day. Men busy breaking roads. Moved my bed down stairs. K. took Mother home. Keeping very quiet. Girls went over to Manse in evening. No mail.

 

13  Snowing thick in AM turned to rain by noon. Killed beef for our selves.
