April 1941

 

19  butter from Mrs Guy Rollings. price 34c. No news. Got German measles at Cecils.

 

20  S. Rained in morning but cleared up and temp up 62 above in afternoon. The snow going fast. Heber away and it was a quiet day without any fussing.

 

21  67 this afternoon. A wonderful day for April. Washed & baked etc. Finished the top of childrens quilt.

 

22  Colder to-day. Ernest walked to Rustico around park road. Put in dahlia quilt for Ina & Louise. Not feeling too spry to-night. Robbie Toombs here for dinner.

 

23  Fine and not so cold. Quilting all day. Heber got a nice mess of trout to-night.

 

24  Cloudy in forenoon, cold SE wind rained in afternoon. Blowing hard. Quilting.

 

25  Snowing this morning but cleared up by noon. Finished the quilt for Ina & Louise. Tennis brought a mess of smelts.

 

26  A lovely day after quite a white frost. Ernest cleaning up the lawn, burning brush etc. Took Heber to Rustico at four PM. Looks like rain to-night. E took the outside windows off the down stairs windows. Mont Wyands have a son.

27  S. A miserable cold day. PJ & Dad went to church. Poured rain all afternoon. Back very sore at night.

 

28  In bed to-day. Rained very hard in forenoon. Dad went part way to Gordon Lairds to meet Mr Smith and Heber. Mr Smith got his car that far. Cleared up in afternoon.

April & May 1941

 

29  Fine but blowing hard in morning. PJ & Dad washed. I got down stairs in afternoon. Snowed in evening.

 

30  Fine. Ground white this morning but didn’t last long. Cold wind all day.

 

May 1st  Fine day but cold wind. Pauline put a quilt in frames and we worked at it. The tractor and plough came up from Dalvey and Heber ploughed the Cemetery Hill. Five feet of snow in places on it and hard digging.

 

2  Dad & Heber went to Rustico in forenoon and trying to get a car road to Town. Dad talking to Alec and May not very good at all. Still cold.

 

3  Fine. Finished quilt to-night. Ernest took Mischief down to Keith. Had a horse of Tennis’s to bring him back. Heber went to town.

4  S. A nice day but wind still cool. Pauline went to church in afternoon and Dad got home around 6 PM. Two cars got as far as corner.

 

5  Cloudy and snowed and rained. Got clothes out in afternoon after it cleared up. Wind North East and north and cold. Good catch of lobsters at Rustico. Put the clock ahead 1 hour to-night.

 

6  A lovely day. Pauline cleaned dining room and I finished the ironing. Had a lovely chicken dinner. Ernest & Heber went to Rustico and brought home 15 lbs of live lobsters so we had a big supper.
