for Lorraine & Pauline. CGIT met here at night.

 

6  8 above but quite nippy. Moderated before noon. Girls washed. Charlie had Gypsy for afternoon and I went down to Lornes. In the evening Dad & I went to Clarence Stewarts. Carpenters went home.

 

7  Mild to-day and light snow, mist and fog. Girls went to Manse to practice for Valentine social. Elmer Fyfe & Hilda Hiscott married at Manse at 9 AM.

8  A crust over everything today. Ernest cleaned off some patches for the Hungarian partridge to get a bit of grass. We have had seven pheasants to feed all winter. Got word over radio that third contingent of Canadian troops had arrived safely in England. Lord Tweedsmuir in a very critical condition following a fall in his dressing room.

 

9  Lord Tweedsmuir had to have an emergency operation and was removed to Hospital in Montreal to-day. A real winter day, a light snowfall this AM and then a gale. Sun shining most of afternoon but a thick drift. Colder to-night. A dance at Abe Hiscotts. They had the dance but no one went from around here.

 

10  A very chill day. Ernest went to Mayfield for butter etc. David took Lorraine to Stanley Rink at night. Lord Tweedsmuir resting easier.

 

11  S. Snow storm in morning and kept getting worse

Word came over radio that Lord Tweedsmuir had pass away shortly after 8 o’clock. Listened to Mr King and others after 11 PM.

 

11  and turned to rain in afternoon. No Church service. Blowing a gale at night and thaw over. Ernest & I had to move our bedding down stairs. Too much noise.

 

12  20 above and blowing hard all day but fine Valentine social at the Manse to-night. Letter from Marion she is at Aunt Maud’s for a week. Ethel Swindlehurst is with her again. Very cold at midnight.

 

13  4 above and a gale blowing. Cecil is laid up with sore back. Not much news. Miltons are sick with colds. Still cold to-night. Girls washed.

 

14  Fine day and around 16 or 18. Wind N.E. at night. got washing out and dry and partly ironed. David J. here in evening. Lord Tweedsmuirs funeral broadcast.

 

15  PJ & I not feeling very spry. Cloudy day with N.E. wind. Lorne Stewarts have a baby girl. Charlie & Lorraine have gone to choir practice at Lorne McNeills. Bad storms in New England states.

 

16  Not feeling any too good. Head ache. Dad & I went down to shore and then to Rustico. Not a very cold day. N.E. wind and a little snow flying in the evening. All in at night.

 

17  34. In bed until supper time. Quite mild all day and thawed a little. Feeling better at night. Over 300 prisoners of war rescued from German ship in a Norway fjord. Great rejoicing in England and tearing of hair in Germany.
