Feb 1940
18 Charles here to dinner. Mrs Tillie here in the afternoon and Mr Tillie came for supper. Ina and Helen Green here in evening.
19 A perfect winter day. White frost in morning but went up to 30 but down to 14 at night. Girls washed. Institute (Cavendish) branch at Ernest McNeills & we all went.
20 Cloudy but fine until 6 PM when it started to snow from S.E. Ernest & I went to Hope River in afternoon. Called to see Charlotte Simpson and had supper at Simpson Bells. Pretty nasty coming home and stormed all night and blew a gale from N.E. and
21 N all day and plenty of drifts in places. No mail for the first time this winter. Not feeling very spry.
22 Head not very good all day. Charlie here in evening. Ernest breaking roads most of forenoon.
23 0. A lovely day, frost last night but calm. Just knitting a little and sewing a little and reading “Queer Judson.” Girls went to Stanley to rink.
24 A perfect day. Dad & Lorraine went to Rustico in the morning. Lorne & Mary McNeill here for evening. Maple Leafs beat Boston Bruins 3-1.
25 S. Snowed all day. Very quiet. No church. Ernest has cold.
26 Still storming and getting colder. A lot more snow down. Ernest not feeling very spry. Lorraine went for milk on snow shoes.
27 8A. Sunshining to-day but quite cold and drifting.
Feb 1940 & March
27 No mail. Very bad roads, highways full and the trains had plenty of trouble getting through. David, Edward & Norman McFarlane here.
28 A very nice day. Bobbie got along. Plenty of shoveling on the roads. Had a tramp on the snow shoes. CGIT at Arties. Washed.
29 Another fine day. Walked over to Erns on the snow shoes. Charlie here to supper. Choir practice supposed to be here but no one came.
March 1 A nice day but cold to-night. Mary McNeill here for afternoon and to supper. Bible Class at Alfred Moores.
2 Bright but bitter cold all day. North wind. Charlie went up for Nannie. Letter from Nan. Cold night and blowing.
3 Still cold but fine. Girls and Ernest went to Church & Charlie came in to supper. Girls went to Sing Song at Lewis Toombs. A baby girl, no 1, born at Ernest Clarkes.

4 Grey cloudy day. Heard thunder this morning at 6 AM. Chill wind and mist and froze on in afternoon. CGIT at Milton Greens. Una 16 years old to-day.
5 Milder, temp got up to 44. Messers Paynter & Smith and Bagnall here for dinner. Charlie took Mother home after supper and went on to Stanley.

6 Very soft road and very thick snow storm at noon with big flakes turned to rain. Not feeling very well. Mrs Austin McNeill Stanley Bridge died this morning.
7 In bed all day. Dirty day. Snow & rain etc.
8 Finer all day. Up but not too spry. Lewis & Mrs Toombs, Cora & John here for the evening.
