King George VI & Queen Elizabeth on way to Canada

 

9  to see Mrs Albert and May. Ellice & Mrs Ling walked over.

 

10  Very fine to-night but rained all last night and thunder showers this forenoon. Got the car out to-day and canned chickens. CGIT at Alfred Moores.

 

11  68A. A very fine day and warm. Mrs Bruce Graham has lost another baby. This is the sixth that they have lost. The Institute Concert in Hall. Good time, good program and quite a success financially.

 

12  Rather cold all day. Wind NW but fine and clear. The big tractor working in the lane on the road way. Everyone weary to-night.

 

13  A cold wind. Plenty of ice off Magdalenes. Our first trip to Charlottetown and a very tiresome day. Saw Deanna Durbin in The Three Sisters. Tired to-night.

 

14  Mother’s Day. Very fine but very cold wind. Wilbert and Martha Wright called and Norman McFarlane brought Keith and Margaret & kiddies up. United Church at night.

 

15  Fine day. Washed in morning and getting ready for Baptist Quarterly. Mr & Mrs Duncan here for supper and five others for the night.

 

16  Fine but wind feels like ice. Had thirteen for dinner, Dr Mason among them, and eight for tea. Dr. Mason spoke at night and I went to church probably for the last time for quite awhile. Took Isobel Tennis to Hospital.

17  King George VI and Queen Elizabeth landed at Quebec this morning and we heard the reception of the Royal guests over the radio. Mr & Mrs Duncan here until 3 PM and Mrs Fred here for afternoon. CGIT at Milton Greens.

 

18  Poured all last night and very hard this afternoon. Bad road to go to election. Mr Smith here for dinner. We had to get Leonard Cullen to tow us up the hill. The last report is Liberals 26 – Con. 4.

Provincial Election

 

19  Fine and cool tho’ wind south. Girls took car to garage and still she wont start to-night. Busy all day. Got front porch about finished, dining room floor painted and back stair. The big tractor at Dalvey. Pauline got herself a new coat and hat. Institute at Wyands to-night.

 

20  Fine day busy. Trouble starting car so took it to Town and then they took me to Carleton and I was there until the 28th. Pauline got four teeth out on the 21st and had to get them packed. Quite cool but very fine all the week. Heavy frost two nights. Was up to Fred McQuarries for an evening with Keith and to S. Side one forenoon with Wilbert and Martha. Anita Pauline and Dad came down for me and the road had been very bad. We had planned to go to Church in S. Side but it started to rain
