November 1938
The snow storm extended from the middle states to the Atlantic, cost NY City a million bucks.
26 Not such a bad day, snowed a little. Ernest and Winnie got home from Ottawa. Made a dress for Ina.
27 Snowed nearly all day and blowing hard to-night. Dad took Otto over to Erns and the kiddies to Mrs Lowthers. A busy day.
28 A lovely day. Scrubbed the room above the kitchen and did some changing around. Lorraine changed the beds in her room. Otto & Kiddies returned. No school as the pipe isn’t safe. Roads bad from 6 to 10 ft of snow on highway in places.
29 18A. Fine to-day. Blew hard all night but moderated through the day. Ernest took Otto to Hunter River this afternoon. Road not very good. Anita at Prestons baking for Dorothys wedding. CGIT here at night. Very weary.
30 A very nice day temp around 30 and not cold to-night and very calm. Washed and busy all day. Mr Constable here for supper, much the worse of booze.
Dec 1 A terrific storm again to-day and the goose supper and Dorothy Warren shower. Dad & Anita got ready to go to Rustico but thank Heavens they didn’t go. Had a hard time to get to school.
56 mile gale
2 Pretty rough day and not many in school. Not much news. Mrs Hammond McKenzie is very sick and John Laird died this afternoon. Roads bad, no one travelling if they can help it.

3 A lovely day all day but cool. Dug the grave today. Dad and I went to Mayfield. Dad to Harolds and Amandas and I to Charlie Wyands. Mrs McKenzie very sick to-day.
4 Poured rain most of day. Dad and I went up to Charlies in the forenoon. Dad took Fred to Stanley to John Lairds funeral and before they came back here from the cemetery poor Mrs Hammond McKenzie has slipped away after not a weeks sickness. It seems so hard when life meant so much to her this last year.

5 A perfectly lovely day, mild and sunny. Anita at Prestons the kiddies at Ellices and I washed most of day and the clothes just didn’t dry. Dad went his rounds to Rustico.
6 Fine in morning but rained in afternoon and night. Funeral at Baptist Church. Quite a large one considering roads. Had Ida May stay with Children. Shower for Dorothy Warren at Ben Grahams. Not many there. A piece went out of barn roof.
15 men killed in mine at Sydney, CB
7 42. A lovely day but blowing a gale from South. Snow almost gone except in hills. Dorothy Warren & Boyse White married. Anita & Mary Stewart had charge of the wedding dinner. Lorraine went to charivari.

8 38. Very nice day. Anita went to Carleton with the children so we have a quiet house to-night. Another disaster near Quebec when 7 men were killed in a land slide at an asbestos mine.
