January 1938 & Feb

 

26  Around 40 above and the snow nearly all gone off the fields. Still in bed. Chior practice at Mr Johnstons.

 

27  Froze this morning. Temp 28A this AM and 24A PM. Anita left for Carleton. Cyril Smith took her up. Dad has a cold.

 

28 8A this morning and 4A to night. Got down stairs today and was glad to get up to bed again. Group at Manse. Perfect day.

 

29  Just a lovely day all day. The girls got their work done early. Milder. Didn’t attempt to go down stairs.

 

30  A nice day. Wind south east and a little chill. Blew a gale at night. Baptist Church at night and sing song at Fred Clarkes.

 

31  43. Blowing a gale and thawing like smoke. Poured rain in afternoon. Ham here to dinner. The Alf Moore barn blew down that Bruce Graham is hauling. Snowing to-night.

 

Feb 1 14A A pretty nice day but cold. Dad & Pauline washed & PJ went for her music lesson and Dad went to Lems in afternoon. Ham here for evening. CGIT here.

12B at Hunter River at night

 

2  2B here and 10B at Hunter River this morning. Dr Mellish came over. Cars running to Rustico and from Ch. Town to O’Leary. Very cold night, the coldest so far this winter. Up and downstairs in afternoon.

 

3  8B this morning. Head bad all day. Mr McKay & Ross walked up from Rustico and landed here for dinner. Pauline busy. Ernest up as far as Alf Moores and took the men

Feb 1938

 

3  men down to Rustico. Choir practice at United Church Wind SE tonight and very chill. Snowed before midnight.

 

4  40A and poured rain for hours. Cleared up some and wind came around to NW. Freezing a little tonight. Eric Bell called for girls to go to Group at Manse. Ernest took another load of wood to Earl Simpson.

 

5  16A Perfect winter day. Ernest down to Alec’s and Lornes in the morning and up to the mill in afternoon Lorraine & Pauline went to New Glasgow to rink. Got home 1:40 AM. Roads icy. Maple Leafs & B. Bruins at Toronto 4.1.

 

6  38 at noon and thawing again. The rest went to Church in AM and I made a pudding and potato scallop for dinner. Feeling better. Ernest has gone over to see Austin Laird. He got his head cut a while ago and then fell through the loft. Sing song at Charlie McKenzies.

 

7  30. Colder and snowing a little all day. Two of our pheasants were eating corn that Ernest put out under the trees. Feeling pretty rotten all day. Colder at night.

 

8  14 above this morning and drifting. Ernest drove Lorraine over to school this morning and took PJ into Lewis Toombs for her music lesson. CGIT here at night. Ham and Milton here. Party at Frank Houstons. Pauline went.

 

9  10 above and very calm and fine. Dad & Pauline washing. Not feeling too good. Ernest went to Hunter River for Anita. Choir practice to Alfred Moores. Cloudy at night.
