Aug 1937

 

22  All went to United Church in morning and Fredericton at night to hear Mr. Sellick. Bobbie Toombs here all afternoon and to tea.

 

23  Nice day, cool and not blowing. Girls washed. Myrons here for dinner and left for Tryon about 2.30. Pauline took Aunt Sadie, May & I down to Oliver Bernards. Got radio fixed.

 

24  Just one perfect day. The girls went to town and we had a lot of visitors. They took Ham to town. All home this evening.

 

25  Lovely day again. Very dry. Garden needs rain badly. Went to Rustico for mackerel but didn’t get any. Lorraine & I went to shore in afternoon. Institute at Lowthers. Delegation from Cavendish went to town to-day to wait on the government about prices for their land.

 

26  Very hot day all day. Louise McNeill of Sussex here in afternoon. Not many visitors. Dr. Bonnell here in evening.

 

27  Very warm to-day. Broke my glasses frames and had to go to town for new frames. Took Ellice & Aunt Sadie with us and brought Mr MacDonald home with us. Camp fire & Dr Lockhart speaks to YPS to-night. Hot dogs at beach at Charlie McKenzies.

 

28  Lovely day and a busy one. Ernest, Anita & PJ went to Carleton for Keith and Margaret and were going up west. Canned 36 cans of mackerel, made marmalade, pickles, etc… Ham here to-night.

Aug 37 & Sept

 

29  83. Still very hot and dry and smoky to-night. Baptist Church in afternoon. Home all day. Family got home at 12.30 AM.

 

30  87. Crop very poor up West. Very hot today, up to 87 and so smokey. Fires in different parts of Island. Doris Stirling here to-night. Miss Love of Ottawa Administrations Parks Branch and her neice here for tea.

 

31  Lorraine started school again. Quite a few visitors around. Ham & David putting in our grain. We took Mr MacDonald to Rustico this evening and I took a few things to Mrs Marshall.

 

Sept 1  Rained to day and cloudy all day. Went to town in afternoon to see “Naughty Marietta”. Janette Macdonald & Nelson Eddy. Ernest had two men working at back bridge.

 

2  Very warm and sticky to-day. Washed. Keith & Margaret and Wilbert up for the day. Anita & Aunt Sadie went to Simpson Bells.

 

3  Fine day and still very warm and smokey. Mother down to day and we took Mr MacDonald down to Alec’s. YPS at Church. Keith got the binder house and a truck load of old wire. Made plum jam.

 

4  Still very hot all day until evening. Wind came around north and cold. Made more plum jam. Have 18 qts of it now. Busy and tired.

 

5  Very much colder. Quite a number around. Mr Wright
