June & July 1937

 

Lorraine left July 1st for Toronto with Mrs Wright

 

27  for tea and went with us to Stanley to see the play “The Color Line”. Rained again this evening.

 

28  Just a perfect day after a heavy rain last night. Everyone busy. Churned, baked bread, four men extra for dinner. School picnic at the shore etc. First load of wire came.

 

29  76A. Very warm, still and close. Washed, had the four men for dinner and Ham for supper. Anita went to Stanley to Elmore McKays shower. Two ladies here from Conecticut for a while this evening.

School closed

 

30  Poured rain from 4 AM until afternoon. What a day. Lorraine getting her clothes ready for her trip away to see Marion.

 

July 1st  Foggy in morning very still and hot. A lot of people going to shore in afternoon. Mr McLaren & Mr McKay here. Lorraine left Hunter River with Mrs Leith Wright at 11.30 AM for Toronto. Pauline getting ready to go to camp to-morrow.

 

2  Anita, Pauline, Vera, and Isobel Beers went to Brudenell to the YPS camp. Mrs Albert came up for afternoon, four girls from St. Lamberts called for a little while. Perley & Daisy brought Aunt Sadie down. The new Minister Rev George Tillie inducted to-night.

 

3  Not feeling too bad until evening but cold turned to chill and not much sleep.

 

4  Lovely weather. Lorraine arrived in Toronto to-day and would be with Marion to-night. In bed all day, quite sick. Dr. Don McNeil in afternoon, and several other cars. A big crowd at beach. Mr Quigley preached at night.

5  Nan took me over to see Dr. Mellish this morning, temp 100 and some. Blood pressure 144. George McCoubrey moving our big Cottage.

 

6  Got the big Cottage as far as the hollow. The flue fell off and someone might have been killed but wasn’t. May McKendrick here for the night. Feeling very punk all day. Elden McKay buried to-day, large funeral.

 

7  Just a perfect day all day and the Odd Fellows Picnic went off with a bang. The Institute took in over $100.00. Everyone tired. Slept good at night.

 

8  Another hot day, very little wind. Had Isabel Tennis here washing. Anita and Annie went to Long River to Missionary Rally in which the young people had the Devotional Service. Spent the evening with Elaine.

 

9  78A. Lovely day, quite warm but a nice breeze going. Anita went to Brudenell for the Camp girls. Got 8 qts strawberries. Group at shore. Mary Emily McNeill Montgomery died.

10  Just perfect all day, not too warm. Quite a surf on to-night. Girls tired. In garden a lot today. Went to Hunter River to night. Aunt Sadie with Elaine today.

 

11  Perfect day. Took May & Alec to funeral in Malpeque, also Ham. Had a lovely drive but dust pretty terrible. Went to Church to night.

 

12  Orange tea at Canoe Cove. Wind cool but lovely clear day. Milton Green cutting hay here. Artie & Jerry Clarke here and friends with them. Anita at Austins to-day.
