April 1926 & May

 

28  Lovely day but wind cold. Anna getting her baby chicks to-day. Big washing this morning finished quilting. Ernest clipped Sport and Daubin.

 

29  Rained this AM a lovely warm rain. Ernest clipped three of Jerry’s horses. Cleaned Keith’s room and ours. Mother & Cecil sick. Lobster season opened today. Very thick fog.

 

30  Foggy again all day. Damp and cold. Cecil sick. Dad went up to see them. Nan went up to-night. Feel mean to-day. Made out order for wall paper to Moore & McLeods.

 

May

 

1  Miserable, foggy and cold in am. Fine after dinner. Ernest went to Harold’s in afternoon. Jerry went to Hunter River with pork. Lorne up this evening.

 

2  Lovely morning, clouded up in afternoon. Roads bad. Keith went up for Anita and the three of them went to Wilburs to-night.

 

3  Fine day, cleared the pantry. Not feeling very well. Ernest & Keith hauling wood from woods out to the field with team. Thawing a lot to-day.

4  Fine all day. In bed all day, quite sick. Poured rain at night. Anita at Wilburs to-night.

5  Raining early but cleared up. Ernest went to H. River for baby chicks. Got 100. Terrible road. Too much snow for carriage and a lot of bare ground. About 20 ft of snow on Ernie Lairds hill yet. Wind north.

 

6  NE wind and cold froze hard last night. Little chicks pretty spry today. Feeling a little better. Marion painting SE bedroom. Terrible strike in England.

 

7  Bitter cold north E wind all day and snowing to-night. Sawed wood. Ham & Peter here. Hall co meeting to-night.

 

8  Ground white this AM, still snowing, turned to sleet and poured rain from NE all day. Papered the Southeast bedroom and painted it.  Little chicks doing fine. More hatching.

 

9  S.E. Warmer, rain in AM. Marion & Nan went to shore. We walked to church in afternoon. Mother’s Day. Splendid sermon. Miss McKay came over for tea. Went to Albert’s in PM.

 

10  Lovely day. Big wash. Tired. Put boat in pond.

 

11  Just a terrible dreary day and bitter cold to-night. Papered the hall upstairs to-day. Marion & Anita in bed with sore throat. Wind N to-night and cold and raining.

 

12  Snowing & raining and cold all day. Blowing a gale NW. Heavy sea. Papering downstairs hall.
