Nov 1940

 

11  Town after dinner for Mrs Olaf Stevenson and her baby girl. Made soap. CGIT here to-night and a practice of their play.

 

12  Threatened rain but held off until night. The men came in morning and went home. Ernest & Pauline went to Carleton and took Keith and Margaret to S. Side and brought home some oats for ‘Mischief’ this winter. Ironed and made soap in afternoon. Got new mattress.

13  Rained quite a bit today. Got mattress placed and one made for couch out of old one. Got some straightening around done upstairs. Smelts for dinner. Institute at Wyands. CGIT practice at Alfred Moore. Have our new library table for living room.

 

14  Heber’s birthday and what a terrible rainy day. Poured all day and most of last night. Had a nice duck dinner and birthday cake for supper.

 

15  Still raining most of day. Not very cold to-night, wind SW. Sewing and not much else doing.

 

16  Still raining. CGIT girls here in afternoon. Just pouring. Finished Louise’s dress. Heber went to Town at night.

 

17  Keith up for the day, were here to dinner. Charlie in in evening. Charles & Annie in for a little while.

 

18  Much finer but colder. Washed in morning. PJ and Ernest went to Rustico in afternoon & PJ to Lewis Toombs at night to CGIT. David Johnston here for evening.

 

19  A nice fresh day, blowing from west and dried up roads.

19  We ironed and after dinner I walked up to Stirling Stewarts and had a very nice afternoon. Home in evening.

 

20  A nice day warmer than yesterday and we made our fruit cakes; 5 small ones in coffee cans and 1 large. Got lobster and mackerel from Mr Peters for Marion. Rained hard to-night but cleared up again.

 

21  Nice day, a pet in fact. Not cold. Got hay from Millman of Kensington. Went to Rustico in afternoon and I stayed at Mays and Ernest came down in evening.

 

22  Red sunrise and rained before 9 AM, but we went to Town. Took May and Margaret & Ethel Moore. Poured all day. Mother in Town. Rather bad road coming home. Pauline got her suit cases.

 

23  Fine to-day and froze this morning. Temp around 28 tonight. Men working. Pauline at Hall all afternoon to practice for their concert. Heber went to town to night.

 

24  S. A nice day but wind chill like snow. Nickey and I had a grand walk to the shore. Reuel and Enid brought Mother out from Town. United Church to-night. Snowing.

 

25  A miserable day, blowing and snowing most of the day. CGIT concert at night for Red Cross. Not many there but they made around $12.00. Heber got out about 10 AM temp 24 at night. Cecil Stetson brought road machine as far as Rustico.

 

26  24A Blowing a gale but fine. Dad walked to Head of Bay and Heber went to Rustico for the Road machine.
