U.S. Presidential election Nov 5th

 

24  A nice day, not so cold and cleared up sunny in afternoon. Didn’t do much extra. We went do to Keiths in evening. Brought home a chicken.

 

25  Another nice day and no frost. People trying hard to get spuds out. A lot have been damaged by frost. Ernest has a bad cold. Card from Velda yesterday says Aunt Sadie better and sitting up again.

26  Rained. We had planned to go to Town but didn’t.

 

27  A miserable day. Charles & Annie here to dinner and I went to Carleton with them. Snow flurries and a bad road by night in many places.

 

28  Margaret washed most of day and I mended. They were working at turnips and garden stuff every fine day and Keith got some ploughing done.

Nov 1st  and Edward Mrs Lowther, Mary Dad & Charlie came down and I came home.

2  Lovely day and Pauline & I went to town in afternoon and Dad went in with Heber at night. Bought a mattress and table for room.

 

3  S. Showery but not cold. Reuel Enid Pauline & Walter out to supper. Roads pretty bad at night.

 

4  A cloudy showery day and we didn’t wash. PJ went over to Ern’s in afternoon. Head ache for days. Not many men working to-day.

 

5  A lovely day. Pauline washed. I was in bed all day. Heber went into town in afternoon. Mr Smith here.

President Roosevelt gets third term election

 

Nov 5th  Ernest working at outside windows. Got some of them on. Quite a closely contested Presidential Election in the United States to-day. The largest vote ever taken in the States and Roosevelt is elected with a tremendous majority over Wendle Wilkie.

 

6  A nice day and I finished the ironing. Rained in the evening so we didn’t go anywhere. Upton Smith was drowned when his car went through the rail of Dunk River Bridge into between 20 & 30 ft of water.

7  A nice warm day. Everyone shocked over last nights drowning accident. Election Day in the 2nd district of Queens and the liberal candidates won with a good safe majority Messers Alec Matheson & Geo Kitson. Raining again to-night.

 

8  A nice day and not cold. Made apple jelly and did a lot of odd jobs around the place. PJ and I went to Rustico at night and then went to Ern McNeills to CGIT play practice.

 

9  Another lovely day here tho’ it rained in Town in afternoon. A very large funeral at Stanley, 58 cars came down here. We couldn’t get into church so stayed in car. Went to town at night to see Boom Town.

10  A nice day. Went to church in the morning and to Brackley, Town & Milton in afternoon. Roads rough but pretty good. Damp at night & snow in places.

 

11  Cloudy this morning but Pauline washed and went to
