Sept 1939

 

here all night. War going on in Europe. Hitler is having himself a fine time.

 

6  Bitter cold and blowing hard all day. Quite a rest after having so many around. Mr Smith up.

 

7  Rained in forenoon, showers. Lorraine PJ & I went to Carleton and took Keith to S. Side. Had Dr Claude check me over and pronounced me OK. A few tourists.

 

8  Quite a number of tourists and I sold 5 books. Had a quiet evening at home.

 

9  Lovely day but wind cool. Quite a few tourists off of the boat Fleuris. Mr Smith up.

 

10  A lovely day and the O’Leary Webbs came down. Maria Lizzie, May, Belle, and Elmer. Gordon & Lydie and friends of theirs here in evening.

 

11  Rained hard in forenoon. Didn’t wash. Tired.

 

12  A few tourists around. CGIT meeting here at night. The war goes on in Poland and will for some time to come.

 

13  A lovely day. Had planned to go to Town but didn’t.

 

14  Very fine and quite warm. PJ & Lorraine & I went to Town. Got eyes tested but didn’t do much else. Had supper at Enids. Didn’t sleep much.

 

15  Just a lovely summer day. Busy making plum and peach jam. Had the Woods family for dinner

Aunt Maggies body found on the 14th

 

15  to-night. War raging in Poland.

 

16  80A. Lovely day, very warm. Dad & Charlie & I went to Borden and over to Tormentine to meet Maud and Marion and Murray. The girls took Margaret & Keith & kiddies to Borden. Everyone weary.

 

17  Lovely early but turned very cold. Reuels here for afternoon and supper. Girls went to Rustico to church. O’Leary Quartette down. Alvin came in about 11 PM. Keiths up.

 

18  Did quite a washing & ironing. Went down to Brackley at night. Took children but wont do it again.

 

19  The rest of family went to O’Leary. Pauline & I kept the children. Mrs James R and Clarence Ethel and Stirling down. They got 17 lbs lobsters at Campbellton.

 

20  Not feeling too well. Went to Keiths at night but too sick to eat. Irene Wyand here for supper. Marion stayed home. Children have cold.

 

21  Feeling better. Had a quiet day. Had Mother come down. Got the letter from Jennie telling about Maggie. A sad death surely.

 

22  Lovely day, went to town in after noon and Ben Woolner up at night. Lorraine all in with cold.

 

23  Busy day. Marion & Murray went up to Don’s to see
