8  A hectic day. Fed 53 extra. PJ & Ina went to Town but got home in good time. Big Oddfellows convention in S. Side.

 

9  Cavendish tea. Had 27 to meals. Rained a little in afternoon. Mrs Robert Raynor died.

10  Not feeling too good. Quite warm and everyone busy.

 

11  A perfect day, wind north and cooler. A lot around to-day and the girls had around 26 for afternoon tea and supper. Elaine over this evening.

 

17  Have been terribly busy everyday for the last week. Exhibition week 14th to 19th and big crowd here nearly every day. Girls had 30 for lunch meals to-day. Pauline & I went to Town to-day and I got me a new dress and hat. Very warm and dry everyday. A terrible murder in Town, Cora Chandler Large shot by her husband.

 

20  Over a hundred registered here to-day and quite a number had meals. Weary to-night.

 

24  War clouds threatening Europe. Weather very hot here all week. Got 65 more books for sale. Mr Luck here this week. Had it a little easier for the last two days.

 

27  Very fine and still quite hot. A very busy day 36 playing golf. 41 had lunch. Tired

Aug 28  A nice day and not so hot. About 21 for meals. Mr & Mrs Stuart and Bill arrived at noon. We drove to Carleton at night, took Mr Luck with us.

 

29  The Stuarts left this afternoon, went to Town and back and then to Dalvey. Eric Bell in to-night. Situation in Europe not quite so tense.

 

30  Terrific wind in afternoon and dust. Missionary meeting at church. Had about fifty nuns in this evening. Pauline & I went to church & Lorraine

 

31  Cleaned up the mess of dust and washed curtains. I came to bed in the morning and quite sick all day.

 

Sept 1  Girls had Annie for day.

 

2  Girls & Dad went to town and bought a couch. Mother down for over night. Rained a little.

 

3  Fine day, warm. Hitler determined to fight. So will England & France. Quite a number around but everyone very quiet and worried.

 

4  Labor Day and quite a number around. Very quiet and quite warm. Sat out doors all day. Ethel Stewart and Charlie here to supper. Mother went home to-night.

 

5  Very hot all day. Up to 80. Ruby Dennis Profit and friends were here. Feeling better in evening. McDuff Copeland and son Kenneth put in a program at the hall and stayed
