Feb 1939 & March

 

25  Lovely fine day but blowing very hard. Charlie went up for Mrs Earl Simpson and she did up a good big washing and some cleaning up for us. Charlie & Lorraine went to New Glasgow to rink.

 

26  40A. A nice day with chill wind. Thawing in afternoon and rained at night. Charlie went home this AM. A very quiet day at Webbs.

 

27  36A in morning and 18A at night and blowing hard. Ernest went to Town to-day. Lorraine couldn’t cross the road to mail box so we haven’t any mail to-day. Quite a thaw. Perley in PE Island Hospital.

 

28  12A this morning. A lovely day but wind came in chill in evening. Dad got home after dinner. CGIT here to-night also Charlie and David Johnston.

 

March 1  Blowing hard and pouring rain in morning but cleared up lovely and thawed like smoke. Dad & I went to Abe’s for a bag of potatoes. Dad up to see Earl this morning. John Stewart pretty sick. Getting Dads clothes ready for his trip. Lorraine has another head cold.

2  Quite a cold wind. Charlie took Ernest to Hunter River and was here all night. Blowing very hard. No ice in sight in the Gulf. Over 20 buried in fire in Halifax.

3  8A this morning. Glad Ernest was at Hunter River, will have a lovely day for travelling. Charlie went up to Joe Stewarts for grain. Charlie took Lorraine to

3  Stanley to rink. Pauline coughing too much to go.

4  A lovely day. Busy. The girls went for a walk in afternoon to get Lorraines papers signed and called at Milton Greens & Alfred Moores. Robbie Toomb got home at night. 150 anniversary of the 1st Congress in US.

5  Quite mild all day. Rain and fog in afternoon. James R. Stewart died about 8 AM. Charlie took Lorraine to church. David Johnston here this evening. Fred Clark down this afternoon.

6  Nice morning and we washed and put out about one half of clothes and the rest up stairs. Snow and rain and blowing a gale to-night. The men at Cemetery all day, digging through the old Presbyterian Church foundation and four feet of frost.

 

7  Blowing a gale and getting colder. Charlie took me to the funeral in afternoon. Reggie Simpson & Edward Lowther here in evening also CGIT girls.

 

8  4B  and a terrific gale all last night and all day. Just kept busy stoking fires. Churned and baked. Still blowing and 2 above to-night.

10  Nice day. Nate phoned that Perley had passed away in the PEI Hospital. Terrible shock. Charlie took Mother to New Glasgow en route to O’Leary. Elmer Fyfe & Hilda Hiscott here in evening.
