15 Charles McFarlane and Laura Johnston called about 11 PM. War news terrible. Dad & Heber got home at
16 2:20 AM. Had two flat tires. Twas a nice day. Very warm and rained at night.
17 Showers and thunder. I went to town with Mr Smith and bought paper for the house and oil cloth for two room. Stayed at Enids. The war raging in France and Belgium and everyone anxious. Rained at night.

18 Got me a navy dress and went to Gov. House with Enid and Mrs Carruthers. Some excitement about the Syrian woman who was using the United Church as a cloak to sell her wares for double price.
19 S. Went to Baptist Church and heard Dr. Coburn and had a drive out to Mt Stewart and to the new airport and home at midnight with Heber.
20 A fine day but cold. Car agents around, plenty of them. Mrs Lowther has bought a car, Institute at Fenners to-night. Took Mrs Lowther.
21 Still cloudy and rained in afternoon and night. Pauline & Mrs Lowther and I went to town and I got my first permanent.
22 Still gray and cold. The electric light men here wiring the house and its a fine mess we are having. Mr Spence left a car with us this evening but we haven’t bought it.
23 Mr Warren here from S. Side with a Mercury and we bought it. Pauline and Mrs Lowther went to Carleton and brought the little girls up. They papered Margarets kitchen. Mr & Mrs

May 23 Robinson arrived after dinner and were here to supper. So with Russel McNeill here papering and painting the Light men working and altogether ‘twas a busy day.
24 A lovely day but not warm. Not many around fishing. Mr Warren came with the Mercury but Spence didn’t return our Chev so we took him to Town and then to S. Side. Dad put down oilcloth in bath-room.
25 A lovely day and much warmer. A busy place to-day. Got oil cloth down in Dads room and the square in the West sitting room. Ina & Louise over for the afternoon. Letter from the girls Aunt Mauds nerves terrible. Quiet evening everyone tried and glad to rest.
26 A perfect day and quite warm. We went down to Gordons and took them for a drive to Southport and called on Dr. Frank and on Aunt Emily at Brackley. Poor old soul has failed terribly. Church at night. Charlie here this evening also some tourists.
27 A lovely forenoon but turned cool and fog came up about 4 PM and we had a smart thunder shower. Had a big big wash. Mr McNeill papered the front room and it looks pretty good. Tired at night.
28 Lorraine 23 today and she got her telegram from Ottawa to report as soon as possible. Another busy day. Pauline went to S. Side with Edward & Mary Willie & Reggie to see “Gone with the Wind.”
29 Fine but quite cool. Mr Smart and Mr Smith here for dinner and until after 5 PM. CGIT girls had sausage roast at shore.
