14 A lovely day and the snow is getting away. U. Church in AM. In bed until 5 PM.
15 Girls washed. A lovely day. Lorraine got word to go to West Royalty to-morrow. Busy day for men.
16 Another perfect day. Ernest took Lorraine to Hunter River. Road not very good, about half bare. Mr Tilley here for supper A debate in CGIT to-night.
17 Fine day but wind keeps cold and freezes every night. Feeling much better. Letter from Nan.
18 Heavy white frost this morning and raining to-night. Walked down for mail, driveway dry.
19 A white ground this morning with rain and fog. Men didn’t work. Mr Campbell went home after dinner. Shower for Gertie Gallant & Elmer Peters at Geo. Nick Gallants. Lowell here to-night for a little help on his debate.
20 Cold and foggy in morning and still a bitter cold wind at night. Debate at Manse. Charlie here in evening. Mr Paynter walked to head of Bay along sand hills. The snow not going at all the last two or three days. Heber went to Town to-day.
21 S. Cold gray day. Pauline went up to Baptist Church in afternoon. Blowing a gale and snowing at night.

22 Still blowing and snowed most of day. Terrific gale all night. Radio went dead at night. Not any frost temp not at freezing Everett Laird died in Hospital and a Mrs Ralph Johnson who was Elva or Elda Bernard of French or Long River died.

23 Still storming all day. Had the doctor for Alfred Moore this morning. Telephone out, Radio dead. Pauline thinks
April 1940 & May
23 we might as well be at the north pole. Alfred has pneumonia.
24 Fine to-day and wind still cold. Heber arrived just before dinner. Walked from Hunter River. We washed and did part of ironing. Keith and Margaret & Louise came up from Carleton to Lowthers.
25 Funeral in afternoon. I walked over to Austins in forenoon. Keith & Margaret and Louise here all night.
26 Lovely day and Edward & Lewis Toombs took the Carleton bunch to the station. Not feeling very good. Ernest went down to Alfreds in evening.
27 Another nice day and the snow is getting away again tho’ the wind is cold. No ice in sight for days. Had to go to bed before dinner. Mr Smiths have another boy.

28 Clear and cold all day. Got up after dinner. PJ and Heber went to shore. Church at night and Charlie in after church. Mr Paynter & Campbell arrived about 8 PM. Walked from head of Bay.
29 A lovely day but didn’t wash. Not feeling very spry. Got up after dinner. Mr Smith came as far as Gordon Lairds and Ernest met him there and brought him up. Heber & Mr Campbell got a fine mess of trout.
30 The warmest day we have had this spring. Dad helped Pauline wash. Feeling better.
May 1 Had Annie (Mrs Earl Simpson) and started house cleaning. Did pantry and part of dining room. Cold east wind to-night. Opening of lobster season. Rather poor prospects as far as price goes. Lorraine got a telegram from Ottawa re Civil
