September 1938
20 A lovely day, quite warm. Washed in morning and after supper. Anita Ellice Ernest and myself went to Carleton and a duck dinner was ready when we got there. Our 33rd wedding anniversary.
Temp around 80
21 Another hot day with temp around 80 and warm at night. Situation in Europe very critical. Institute meeting at Oliver Bernards. Anita and I took Mrs Fred & Mrs Fenner to Stanley to Mrs Abb Hiscotts funeral.
22 A very nice day, not quite so hot. Nothing strange or startling happened. Went to Alec’s for a few minutes while the rest of family went to Rustico with Battery. Also to Rupert Simpsons and got squared up with him.
23 Was a nice day. Broke my teeth in morning and not feeling very good about it. Messers Smith, Murdie, McKay and Coles here for dinner so we didn’t get to Town. YPS Executive meeting at Church.
24 Gorgeous morning. Anita & I went to Town, took the Smith girls. Got my teeth fixed and bought a linoleum rug for dining room. Got radio fixed up.

25 Much colder, showers in forenoon. Quite a number in this afternoon. Ernest and I went over the trail and Golf Course. Baptist Church in afternoon.
26 Nice day. Lorraine quite sick and Anita was in bed part of day. WCTU meeting to-night at church.
September 1938 & Oct
27 A very fine day. Mr Thompson arrived about 2 PM a little the worse for wear. Mr Douglas arrived too but soon left. Prime Minister Chamberlain address the Empire in his final plea for peace in Europe. Raining to-night.
28 A nice day. Anita went to Town to keep house for Mrs Bell. Lorraine taught to-day. Inspector there. Mr Thompson rather on the blink and meals at all hours. Mr Woods has taken him to Town to-night. The war situation a little more hopeful to-night. Chamberlain, Deladier, Mussolini and Hitler to get together to-morrow for a four power conference.
29 A sigh of relief and a prayer of thanksgiving to-night for the hope of peace instead of a world conflict as it would have been had Hitler marched on Checoslovakia. Fine day. Mr Woods and Mr Thompson not back yet and we wonder why.
30 Cloudy and quite cool all day and an easterly storm to-night. Mr Thompson quite sick to-day. Mr Smith here in afternoon. Mr Bert Woods here to-night.

31 Mr Thompson in bed all day and the Woods men quite worried but he was better at night and stayed alone. Just a terrible strain.
Oct 1 Poured rain all day. Regular Nor East storm No work done. Mr. T had a walk this evening feeling quite a little better but oh so thirsty. Letters from the girls. Lorraine getting ready for Rally Service.
