April 20th Windy. N.E. Easter Sunday. Snowing until 10 AM. A lot of snow. Fields covered. Froze hard at night. Up to B.View. Radio Poor. Long day. No preaching.
21 wind. S.W. Fine day. Ernest helping Cecil haul in hay stack. Finished Anitas serge shirt. Collecting for Ernie Laird. Froze hard at night.
22 S.W. Lovely morning. Heavy white frost. Ernest got load of hay from Cecil. Marion cleaned her room. Started cleaning pantry. Rained in evening. Wind S.E.
23 – S.E. Very heavy rain. Fine in afternoon. Finished pantry. Papered front porch. Car ferry crossed last night. Had been stuck in ice for some days.
24 S. & S.W. Lovely fine bright day. Washed in A.M. Ernest finished collecting for E. Laird. Got 44.00. J.F.G. met at Fenners. Lots of snow yet but going fast.
25 N.E. Cold foggy and rain and sleet at night. J.F.G went up to mothers. Cleaned our bedroom little hall & spare room. Marion ironed. Darnley quite sick.
26 N.E. fine. Ernest went to Creek in A.M. Got bag of flour and clover seeds. Did Saturdays work. Broke road from brook to Ham’s gate.
27 Sunday N.E. Fine in morning. Snowed a little in evening. Mother and Cecil down. Pres church in afternoon. Ernest and girls went. Keith has sore throat. Darnley pretty miserable. I spent the day in bed, sore back.
28 S.W. In morning, turned to N.E. in afternoon. Very heavy fog at night. In bed till 4 PM. Back very sore. Snow very slow going. Sent order to [?] $6.30
29 S.E. Snowing in AM. Ernest and Keith cleaning grain. Up today but pretty crippled. Sent order to Lou S. Darling for seeds $1.00. Letter from Aunt Sadie. She is in Gladstone, getting settled. Ernest up to Wilburs getting glass cut for hot bed.
30 S. and S.E. Pretty fine day. Warm south wind, thawed a lot. Broke road from corner to Forge. From 3 to 6 ft snow. No mail. Very bad road. Feeling better today. Set 2 hens today.
May 1st, Sir Louis Davis died to-day within 4 days of his 79th birthday. Was born 1845 on May 4th.
1st S.E. Blowing gale, threatening rain all day. Mail came. Terrible road. Ernest to see Darnley. Very poorly, did not see him. Got Anita shoes & rubbers from Reuel. Shoes, $3.50 Rubbers 90. Letters from Myron and Elaine Ice got a start off today. Very heavy ice on shore yet. Sir Louis Davis died.
2 S.W. Fog in air. Cleared off lovely. Warm day. Dad walked to Forge. Clipped Laddie. Ironed & baked. Marion swept. J.F.C.s here at night.
3 A.M. S.W. N&NE. E & S.E. Fine day but chilly in evening. Ernest yarding out lumber. Made hot bed frame in afternoon. Went to Stanley to factory meeting. Took a sleigh. Mrs Billie Taylor had a boy. Bad road. Keith went to run for smelts. Got 5. Set a hen in boiler house. Girls cleaning up yard in afternoon.
Sunday 4th Perfect day. Wind southeast and warm. No church. Keith went up to Bay View on horseback. Ernest & Winnie over in evening.
5 S.W. & S.E. Blowing a gale Washed regular & bedding Marion cleaned Anitas room. Keith went to run for smelts. Got 6 & some perch. Raining at 11. P.M. Darnley better today. Put manure in hot bed. Saw first carriage come down hill this A.M.
