April 1938

 

17  Easter Sunday. Lovely morning but radio reception very poor. United Church in afternoon. All the family ‘cept me went. Margaurite Graham here from Church. Mrs Houston died of cancer.

18 54A. Rainy day at times and raining hard to-night. Made out our seed order to-night. Finished Lorraines Dresden plate quilt. Ernest cleaning up chip yard.

 

19  56A. Raining in morning but very mild. House cleaning spare room west bed room and our bedroom. Nero away for the night. Annie and Alfred Moore here for Evening.

 

20  70A. Very lovely day, warm and a good breeze. Girls did a big washing and painted the wood work of Kitchen and I cleaned my little bed room. Mrs Ed Graham & Margaurite, Earl Simpson. Mrs Fred and George Clarke here in evening.

 

21  Cooler this morning, raining, but cleared up and wind came around cold. Girls finished Kitchen and I finished the landing and me.

 

22  Not quite so cold. Ernest & I cleaned back porch and the girls ironed and baked and scrubbed and waxed floors. Group at Church to-night. Eric Bell down. Saw first truck come out of Mayfield road and go east but not far.

 

23  Cold wind but not a bad day and drying up. Girls scrubbed school and finished cleaning upstairs. Cemetery meeting and choir practice here tonight. Girls walked to shore to-night and found silver bar pin.

April 1938 & May

 

24  S. Lovely day all day. Sunday school. Marguarite here for dinner. Girls went for Mayflowers but they are very scarce. B. Church at night. Ernest and I walked to shore. Cars on the road to-day.

 

25  South east wind, not very warm. Cleaning house yard and Dad took banking away and burned a lot of rubbish. Ham here to dinner, and Robbie here this evening. Charlie had Gypsy this morning to Rustico.

 

26  Still damp and cloudy. Rained last night and this AM. Ernest and I went to Rustico and around by Wes Rollings and Park Fence. Had supper at Alecs. CGIT in Manse.

 

27  Cloudy in forenoon and rained in afternoon. Washed and ironed and Institute at Mrs Ernest MacNeills. Not many there, we walked over, very dark.

 

28  32A. Miserable day, fog, mist and cold east wind. Got first herring from Jimmy Doiron to-night. Play practice here.

 

29  Still cold and very little sunshine to-day. Not doing much extra. Too cold to do anything outside. Ball game on school grounds and YPS at Church.

 

30  Rained hard most of day and cold. Roads bad. Practice at hall for concert. Robbie & David & Charlie here afterwards. Ham here to supper.

 

May 1  Fine morning but wind cold and rained by 5PM. All the family went to church. CGIT girls had their Service. Quiet day, no company. Went to bed early.
